Thandanani’s first child:

A fifteen year old girl gave birth to a little girl for the second time.  Her first baby had died. She was suicidal, not knowing how to cope with a baby when she was just a child herself.

After unsuccessfully trying to end her life by drinking a dangerous substance, she decided to leave her baby at the police station.   

That little baby became one of our first children to come to Thandanani,  18 months old. She has grown up into a beautiful girl who loves life and is full of joy. She is now in Grade 3 at Kingsway School. We have since tracked her mom down, but she is still not in a position to look after her child.  Without Thandanani, this little girl would most probably be another crime statistic, another life which was traumatised because of neglect.
